हस्त मुद्रा क्या है:-  भारत में प्राचीन काल से ही हस्त मुद्रा चिकित्सा का प्रचलन है। हस्त मुद्राओं का समावेश हिंदू धर्म की उपासनाओं में भी मिलता है। गायत्री मंत्र जप से पूर्व की 24 मुद्राएं और जप के पश्चात की 8 मुद्राओं से सभी परिचित हैं। यह मुद्राएं व्यक्ति को स्वस्थ रखती हैं।

पंचमहाभूत:- चरक संहिता शरीर स्थानम का प्रथम अध्याय में कहा है, कि मानव शरीर पंचमहाभूत से मिलकर बना है। यह पंचमहाभूते पृथ्वी तत्व, जल तत्व, वायु तत्व, अग्नि तत्व और आकाश तत्व इन पंच महा भूतों की शरीर के प्रत्येक अंग में उपस्थिति होती है। हाथ में भी यह विद्यमान रहते हैं। पृथ्वी तत्व सबसे छोटी उंगली के पास वाली उंगली अर्थात अनामिका उंगली में, जल तत्व सबसे छोटी उंगली में अर्थात कनिष्का निशिका उंगली में, वायु तत्व तर्जनी उंगली में अंगूठी के पास वाली उंगली में, अग्नि तत्व अंगूठे में और आकाश तत्व मध्यमा उंगली में विद्यमान होता है।

रोग और पंचमहाभूत:- हम जानते हैं कि मानव शरीर पंचमहाभूत से मिलकर बना है। यह प्रत्येक अंग में विद्यमान है, किंतु इसका एक निश्चित अनुपात होता है। यदि इस अनुपात में परिवर्तन होता है, तो शरीर में असंतुलन पैदा होता है। यह असंतुलन ही रोग के रूप में परिलक्षित होता है। यदि पंचमहाभूत उसे संतुलन पुनः स्थापित हो जाए, तो रोग से निवृत्ति हो जाती है।

प्रमुख हस्त मुद्राएं:- हस्त मुद्राएं अनेक प्रकार की होती है, प्रमुख हस्त मुद्राओं का परिचय निम्नलिखित है।

1. पृथ्वी मुद्रा :- पृथ्वी मुद्रा में पृथ्वी तत्व की प्रतिनिधि अनामिका उंगली मतलब छोटी उंगली के पास वाली उंगली को अंगूठे से स्पर्श किया जाता है।

2. जल मुद्रा :- जल मुद्रा में जल तत्व की प्रतिनिधि कनिष्ठका उंगली का, मतलब सबसे छोटी उंगली को अंगूठे से स्पर्श किया जाता है।

3. वायु मुद्रा :- वायु मुद्रा  में वायु तत्व की प्रतिनिधि तर्जनी मतलब अंगूठे के पास वाली उंगली को अंगूठे की जड़ से स्पर्श किया जाता है और अंगूठे से तर्जनी उंगली को हल्का सा दबाया जाता है।
